In This video we discuss how to quickly germinate and Grow Blueberries from Seeds of Blueberry.
A very easy way to help them start growing.
Step 1 – Find some fresh or old blueberries, it doesn’t much matter but you must do a pinch test to see if there are seeds inside them.
Step 2 – Once you have some good ones picked out, make sure you place them in a cold area, like a fridge for 2 weeks.
Step 3 – now they are ready to germinate and start growing. So place them into small containers. Cut each blueberry in half first.
Step 4 – place them on top of soil in your container and then sprinkle a good layer of soil right on top of them. (half inch or so)
Step 5 – place the blueberry containers in a warm area with some sunlight or under a grow light. Blueberries can take up to 4 weeks to germinate.
Step 6 – after about 60 days the plants will be ready to transplant to your garden or a bigger growing container.
Caring for Blueberries
Caring for Blueberries – Blueberry bushes like acidic soil. (4.5 ph) Place in a sunny location where they will have 8 hours of full sun. If you are planting more than one bush separate them by 3 feet apart.
They are perennial flowering plants with blue or purple–colored berries.
Blueberry Fun Facts
Blueberries are an antioxidant-rich fruit that may provide several health benefits.
They are packed full of vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber.
Anti-aging is one of the top sought-after natural skincare benefits. The antioxidants present in blueberries combat free radicals from sun exposure, which can cause damage to our skin over time and speed up the aging process. They also contain significant amounts of zinc and iron, both skin-friendly elements.
Blueberries have arguably more antioxidants than green tea and are packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
They are believed to have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all common fruits and vegetables. The main antioxidant compounds in blueberries belong to a family of polyphenols antioxidants called flavonoids.
Because blueberries are high in antioxidants, they can neutralize some of the free radicals that damage your DNA.
They appear to have significant benefits for people with high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart disease.
Vitamins C and E also help minimize sunspots and uneven pigmentation by removing surface skin cells, which cause discoloration.
Blueberries are naturally rich in anti-inflammatory properties and a particularly potent type of antioxidant called anthocyanin. Together they strengthen new collagen formation and help prevent cell-damaging free radicals produced by sun exposure.
How to Plant Blueberries
Plant in Early Spring
Plant them in early spring. You can mix some peat moss into your planting hole, to keep the soil loose, acidic and well-draining. If you have only two or three plants, space them about 4-5 feet apart. To plant them in rows space plants about 4-5 feet apart in rows that are 9-10 feet apart.
Blueberry plants need full sun: They will tolerate partial shade, especially late in the day.
They need full sun. Blueberries require acidic soil. Plant two or more varieties for successful pollination.
Since Blueberries prefer acidic soils a fail-safe way to grow blueberries in almost any soil is to incorporate peat moss into the planting medium. For planting directly in the ground, work up a planting area approximately 2½ feet in diameter and 1 foot deep for each plant. Remove 1/3 to 1/2 of the soil.
