We came upon this so called “Garden Hack” that actually works. We have uploaded the video so you can see the step by step process for this gardening tip.
There is a combination of materials that takes place within the soil and after testing it we proved it actually does work pretty well. We were pleasantly surprised to find this out considering the many hacks that have failed over the years.
Basically, the idea is to find this material within a baby diaper made of non-harmful absorbing silica beads that expands 100x its original size or so. While that absorption takes place it enriches the soil with an abundance of these gel like crystals that holds moisture. This will allow the soil to continue to stay moist while there is no rain.
We used this method in flower baskets hung on a fence row. It lasted the whole growing season from late Spring until the end of Summer. The Petunias and Potato Vine loved the extra periods of moist soil helping the plants stay hydrated between rain fall.
Recommendations if you do try this method out is use a potting mix with peat moss in it. Do not use potting soil as this tends to dry out much faster. The combination of peat and the silica gel works hand in hand.
